Healing Arts Workshops for Breast Cancer Survivors – Tom Baker Cancer Centre

Blog0 comments

The Department of Psychosocial Resources and Spiritual Care Services are introducing new Healing Arts Workshops funded by the Wings of Hope Foundation that will be available this year at the TBCC for breast cancer patients and survivors in Calgary and the surrounding area! This is a series of arts-based workshops that will include instruction and exploration in one artistic medium. Each workshop will be co-facilitated by an established artist, writer, musician or dancer and a psychosocial oncology professional.

For Fall 2012, two workshops are now open for recruitment:

The Healing Power of Writing

Oct. 20-21st, two 6-hour sessions (Sat & Sun, 10:00-4:00)

  • Co-facilitated by Shirley Serviss (writer) and Dr. Helen MacRae (therapist)
  • Participants will explore writing as a way to express emotions and gain insight
  • No previous experience is necessary
  • Inspiration and instruction will be provided

Find Your Music

Tuesday evenings from Oct. 2 – Nov. 6, 6:30-8:30, six 2-hour sessions

  • Patients will make music, write songs, and learn to use music intentionally to discover listening habits, music preferences, and their life’s soundtracks
  • No previous experience is necessary

By participating in these workshops, cancer patients and survivors may tap into abilities and talents they never knew they had as a way to mobilize inner healing powers.

Please send this information along to anyone you know who may be interested in participating in these workshops. There is a cap of 15 participants per workshop, and participation will be on a first come/first serve basis, so please encourage patients and survivors to register ASAP!
